Salsa On2: "Transition from On1 to On2 salsa dancing" taught at Level 4/5

Salsa On2 Has Finally Arrived at Salsaville!

After decades of teaching Salsa On1 here in Boulder since 1999, Eric is thrilled to finally bring Salsa On2 to the local dance community.

A Long-Awaited Journey

Eric's personal history with On2 dates back to 1995, when he first was exposed to it while intensively studying salsa in New York City, a passion he later deepened through years of training in Cuba. While he has always loved the flow and sway of the style, finding the right moment to introduce it to Boulder took time—largely because "Dancing On2" isn't just one thing; there's more than one way to do it and to think about it.

Why Learn It Now?

With Salsa On2 having exploded into a worldwide phenomenon—attracting so many of the best dancers—the main motivation for bringing it to Boulder isn't about declaring one timing "better" than another. Rather, it's about versatility and survival.

When traveling domestically and internationally, you may frequently encounter social dance floors where the vast majority of people are dancing exclusively On2—and some, unfortunately, neither know how to nor care to dance On1. There is no need to be sidelined anymore when you walk into a venue or a dance school where people are focused pretty much exclusively On2. The more styles you know, the more adaptable you become, ensuring you can connect, dance, and have fun no matter where you may find yourself in the world.

Think of this as a small investment in your dance future. In just a month or two, you'll unlock the ability to connect with a much larger share of the worldwide salsa community that you might otherwise have to sit out.

Who Is This For?

This course is primarily aimed at dancers who are already generally comfortable dancing On1. It is specifically designed for people currently taking Salsa Levels 4 and/or 5 (or who have completed at least Salsa Level 3), as well as anyone currently taking Cuban-style classes.

The Salsaville Approach: Bridge, Don't Restart

If you already dance On1, you don't need to start from scratch. Eric recently did a deep dive into this unique landscape to get fully up to speed, developing a specialized approach for experienced dancers. Instead of reteaching the basics, this course focuses on the key transitional skills necessary to comfortably survive—and ultimately thrive—on a dance floor filled with On2 dancers.

Our goal is to take the mystery out of On2 dancing and explain it in the clearest possible terms, so you will finally understand exactly what this style of salsa dancing is and is not.

You'll also gain comfort navigating the different flavors of On2, focusing primarily on New York On2 style, and along the way, learning how to dance the timing of the Cuban Son.
