Edie Lewis, known all over the world as simply, “The Salsa Freak” has finally made a ladies styling video…and it is very well done!! This video is very useful for every salsera who wishes to add style and personality to her dancing.  It explains what she can do to enhance the basic steps, cross body leads, under arm turns, open breaks, and much more. Edie does a great teaching job with the help of her partner, Salomon Rivera. Although the material at times is quite complex and involves some advanced body movement, it’s easy to pick up thanks to how well they break it down.

This is a “LA Style” ladies styling video.  I would describe "LA style" as a very flashy and quick style of dancing -- and Edie Lewis is one of the best.  She calls it "Hollywood style salsa", and she may be best summarizing the video when she says, "Remember, it's not how you feel, but how you look!"  And look good she does.  I would describe her dancing as very sharp and tight, and if this is a style that you would like to incorporate into your dancing, then I highly recommend this video.

Edie thoroughly describes how to add arm styling, finger styling, shoulder styling, head bangers and hip and leg styling to your dancing. She also describes in a simple manner how to apply attitude to your dancing, and how to improve your posture.  She also gives suggestions as to what the woman can do in the moments of time between the man's moves, which she calls "Edie’s freedom concept."

But this video isn't only for women!  25 minutes are devoted to partnering techniques that apply to both men and women.  This is a topic that gets ignored too much (especially in group classes). Salomon presents some really good exercises to learn and improve the "all-important" arm tension. Edie and Salomon also explain the details of latin and samba motion, another really important topic.

The level of this video is mostly at the intermediate to advanced level. However, a beginner could also pick up and learn from some of the presented material. Each styling move is effectively explained in detail from different angles, completely broken down as well as in real time to a hot salsa song. Edie demonstrates each styling trick dancing with Salomon, where she also suggests exactly where each trick can be incorporated. Edie and Salomon further give a sample of their dancing in two short demos that contains all the styling plus several advanced moves seemingly worth making a separate video on themselves! Overall the quality of this video is very high -- both the teaching as well as the audio and picture is done in a very professional manner.
